AI-powered consulting training: The future of workforce development
Case Study
We integrated AI tools into a consulting skills course to create a future-ready learning experience
The Situation
Empowering employees and optimising organisations through next-generation training programmes
Consulting skills are in high demand. Now new technological tools are available to supplement these invaluable abilities for professionals
Problem solving, critical thinking and effective strategic communication skills have never been more important than they are in today’s increasingly complex and fast-paced world. While synonymous with consulting, the reality is that these components are essential for professionals regardless of sector, seniority or geography, as research has already proved. It is therefore no surprise that more companies are looking to broaden the skillsets of their teams in search of a competitive advantage.
However, conventional approaches to skills development risk missing out on opportunities for improvement. One key development that has yet to be factored into most training programmes is the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), even as it is transforming almost every aspect of the professional world.
To fully prepare the workforce of both the present and the future, development schemes must combine the two. That means instilling the analytical and interpersonal skills needed to be successful but also supplementing those with an element of coaching on AI-driven tools and methodologies, to best simulate the real-world environment.
Leaders at one public sector organisation in the GCC region saw the potential of AI-backed consulting training – and they recognised that Hyphen could deliver exactly what they needed.

The Action
Combining skills training to maximise impact
Our team incorporated AI best practice into training alongside conventional consulting skills
Once Hyphen representatives had spoken with the client to understand their particular requirements, we produced a bespoke training package that included bringing in a former top-tier consultant-turned-trainer to help with the teaching.
The week-long programme was built with six key objectives in mind:
- Build core consulting skills in line with what staff at leading firms possess
- Standardise skill levels across the team to boost productivity and efficiency
- Develop high-performing teams capable of supporting each other
- Cultivate a culture of continuous learning
- Increase bonds and improve relationships between departments
- Leverage AI technology most effectively
With 21 modules covering everything from problem solving and AI consulting skills to interpersonal skills and written communication, the training solution blends theory with practicality to reinforce learning. This includes leveraging generative AI tools, such as Claude and ChatGPT, to develop interactive experiences that in turn helped participants understand how to use this technology effectively in a real-world context.
Key components of the training include:
- Consulting skills development – based on well-established consulting methodologies, our training equips professionals with traditional problem-solving approaches.
- Understanding and applying AI tools – participants learn how to integrate AI into their consulting workflows, including hypothesis generation, data analysis, and communication.
- Real-world application – sessions involve solving scoped projects with AI-powered tools, allowing participants to practice using AI in realistic consulting scenarios.
Through this model, we designed a learning experience that adapts to different industries and organisational needs. Our programme allows companies to upskill their workforce in a way that is both time-efficient and results-oriented.
Unlike traditional training modules, which often require long classroom hours with minimal direct application, our focused hybrid approach ensures that participants leave with both consulting skills and the ability to confidently use AI.
Another of the key differentiators of our training is the expert facilitation that accompanies the AI education. The top-quality facilitators ensure each session remains engaging, practical, and contextually relevant, and that participants not only learn but also remain motivated and challenged throughout the training process.
By continually iterating on feedback from past cohorts, we have fine-tuned the curriculum to ensure that AI is presented as a practical tool that enhances consulting skills rather than as an abstract concept.

The Outcome
A plug-and-play programme that can help any organisation prepare for the future
Attendees reported very high levels of satisfaction, while further sessions – and courses – will soon follow
Our team conducted three sessions in 2024, with the same number pencilled in for 2025. Participants were invited to provide feedback at regular intervals – and the results from the final session of 2024 speak for themselves:
- 91% found the programme to be an “extremely valuable use of their time”.
- 96% said they would recommend the training to colleagues.
- 84% believe the knowledge they gained will be useful in their day-to-day roles.
The combination of theoretical learning, AI-focused interactivity, and hands-on practice has made this training one of the most impactful learning experiences many of the professionals who completed the programme have encountered. That is reflected in some of the written responses we received:
- “One of the rare courses that keeps on giving after it’s over; the reflection and discussions with my team have been incredibly valuable.”
- “All of the sessions, including the AI components, were connected well, contributing to the overall knowledge gained.”
- “I found all the sessions helpful because following a tested and tried approach to any project or problem reduces the time needed to progress.”
Two of the programme’s most significant assets are its scalability and adaptability. Our model allows us to deliver high-quality learning experiences at scale and our client is now exploring the possibility of expanding the programme to educate both senior leaders and new joiners to ensure the knowledge is present at all levels of the organisation.
This is not the only adjustment we have in mind. What started with consulting skills training with integrated AI sessions could soon expand, with programmes customisable to clients’ needs. Other potential options could include training on agile ways of working and more government-focused modules, with our trainers and facilitators experienced in both topics.
By embedding AI training into consulting skills development, we have created a programme that enhances individual capabilities, equips organisations with future-ready problem-solvers, and sets a new benchmark for professional development.
