Meet Mustafa Can Coşkun – our latest recruit reveals all in his welcome Q&A

24.07.2024

Mustafa Can Coskun is a problem-solver and analyst at heart – which makes him a perfect fit for our A-team.

For his latest big predicament, he gathered information, measured it against his key metrics and reached a conclusion: Hyphen is the place for him to start his career post-university.

Now, as our newest Client Partnerships Associate, Mustafa is excited about the opportunity to make a ‘tangible impact’ with organisations around the world. Passionate about solving problems, Mustafa boosts the quality and capacity of our team, meaning we can tackle more of the biggest challenges facing our expanding list of clients and help us build for the future.

After a year of building up his knowledge of us from the outside, he is now on the inside and sees an intellectually stimulating company that will let him demonstrate all he has to offer.

This welcome Q&A features Mustafa’s perspectives on:

  • What set Hyphen apart during his post-university job search and his impressions of the company from afar
  • Meeting the team in Portugal and going through his induction in-person
  • The importance of speaking with company leaders during the recruitment process.

Hyphen: What most interested you about this role and joining our Client Partnerships team?

Mustafa: I am someone who loves being surrounded by people and tackling problems from an analytical perspective.

My mindset is to find areas where I can apply my skills and passions and that has brought me here because I believe Hyphen is the right place to discover where I can work on these aspects.

I am looking forward to working with clients, solving their problems, and making a tangible impact on businesses. As a fresh graduate at the start of my career, I see everything as a learning opportunity and am eager to learn from this experienced team.

Hyphen: What are you expecting from this job and do you expect any big differences or similarities between your work with us and your previous experiences?

Mustafa: I think this will be a unique experience for me, both in terms of the work we do and the people I work with.

I am based in Istanbul but it was really interesting that my first working day was in Ericeira, Portugal as part of a coworking retreat, which was an amazing and new experience. Working with a diverse team from different backgrounds and getting to know each of them face-to-face in a remote-first job was such a valuable opportunity.

The work we do and the services we offer are unique so I see how Hyphen is unlike traditional consulting or professional services companies. I believe the atmosphere here will keep me engaged and intellectually stimulated. As part of a dynamic team, I’m sure working here will provide numerous learning opportunities about the business.

Hyphen: How did you first hear about us and what made you decide to apply?

Mustafa: I have been following the company on LinkedIn and keeping up with recent news and articles for almost a year. From what I have read and now seen, it’s clear the company offers innovative services to its clients in a startup environment while maintaining a team of high-performing professionals.

When I saw an opening, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to kickstart my career, so I applied for the position. The process here also really let me convey who I truly am – from the initial HR call to the team introductions, founder meetings, and all the assessments, I felt comfortable.

The process allowed me to clearly demonstrate my work and personality in ways that genuinely reflect who I am and I really appreciated that.

Hyphen: How was it for you getting the opportunity to speak with the leadership during the application process??

Mustafa: Speaking with the founders definitely helped me learn more about the company. It was very informative about the company, its core business, and how it has evolved.

It’s impressive that even the most senior figures are involved in the hiring process. Initially, the idea of a founder interview felt a bit stressful – especially solving a case study in front of them – but after the initial meeting and having a conversation, they made me feel comfortable, and it turned out to be a great experience.

Hyphen: You mentioned earlier that your first day took place with the whole team in Ericeira – how was that experience of meeting everyone and doing your onboarding in person considering we are a remote-first company?

Mustafa: It was a unique experience for sure! Meeting most of the team face-to-face, getting to know them, and engaging in fun activities in such a beautiful setting was a fantastic opportunity.

Being a remote-first company, having my onboarding and training sessions in person was incredibly beneficial and provided an opportunity that cannot be easily replicated remotely.

Hyphen: We have talked a lot about Mustafa the worker but can you tell us a bit about Mustafa the person – what do you like to do in your spare time?

Mustafa: In my spare time, I enjoy trying out new restaurants in the city and experimenting with new recipes in my kitchen – which isn’t surprising given that I grew up in a culture centred around food.

I also love travelling as I find planning new trips and exploring new destinations gives me a great sense of excitement and fulfilment.
