How we recruit our A-team members in four steps

Initial application
You will complete an online application form, which will typically require you to answer some short essay questions looking at hypothetical but realistic work scenarios.

Introduction interview
You will get to know at least one Hyphen employee via video call, and this will help you learn more about the role. We also want to make sure that you are the right fit for us so please just be yourself!
3
Problem-solving interview
You will be given at least one job-related scenario and then tackle problem-solving exercises. These will test your analytical and entrepreneurial skills and see how you adapt to challenges you might face in your role.
4
Reference checks and final talk
We will talk to at least two references before we have one last discussion to review feedback from the process and then finalise details about the job, with a view to making an offer.

Location independence
As a remote-first company, we want team members to work wherever suits them. Digital nomads are welcome!
Holiday allowance
In addition to 25 days of holiday as standard, staff are also given a paid week’s holiday at the end of each year to enable you to do what you enjoy.
Co-working retreats
Our multinational team meets up four times each year to strategise and socialise in a different European destination. (Helsinki, Vienna, Sicily and Budapest are just some of the places we have travelled to recently.)

Hyphen offers a comprehensive compensation package including a base salary, individual and team bonuses, and an employee stock option program.

Mothers receive 18 weeks of paid maternity leave (two before birth and 16 weeks to be taken at any point during the first year). Fathers receive eight weeks of paid maternity leave (two after birth and six weeks to be taken at any point during the first year).

FAQs
Do I need a recruiting or consulting background to work at Hyphen?

No, we pride ourselves on being open to candidates from all fields and from around the globe. We believe that variety can make us stronger by broadening our range of expertise, experience and ideas.

Where would I be based and what would my schedule look like?

Hyphen is an entirely remote company, and we are happy to let most people build their work schedules around their lives within reason. Most of our team works in Europe but we also have colleagues in the Middle East and the USA so we can be adaptable.

Do you offer internships or apprenticeships?

At present, we do not offer internships or apprenticeships, but this may change in the future so please follow us on LinkedIn and keep checking our website. Alternatively, if you think you can make an impact right away, feel free to send in a speculative application.

Do I need to have a degree or any other academic qualifications to join?

A degree is not a necessity, though it helps. Some key things we look for are a desire to learn new skills, the ability to think critically and solve problems, a strong work ethic, and an entrepreneurial mindset. If you can demonstrate these traits, you might be suitable for Hyphen.

How many stages are there to this process? How long will it take?

We are keen to make sure we find exactly the right people to join our small team and so are very thorough. The length of time it will take to complete the process depends on the number of steps, which varies for different roles, but we will endeavour to make it as quick as possible.

Will I receive any feedback on my application?

Due to the number of applications we receive, we are unfortunately unable to provide individual feedback at the initial stage of the process. However, should you progress to the interview stages, you will have the option of requesting feedback on your performance.

I don't see a job that quite suits me – can I send in my CV/resume speculatively?

We do not recruit many people but if you really think you might be a good fit for us, you can send us your CV/resume and a covering letter explaining why you want to join Hyphen to candidates@hyphen.com and we will get back to you if we think you might be right for us.

I have never done a problem-solving-based interview before – how should I prepare?

We appreciate that this will be something that many people have not come across before, so we strongly advise that you review at least some of the following websites and sources to prepare.
