Hyphen expert joins global public sector leaders for transition summit

22.05.2025

One of Hyphen’s senior strategy and policy advisors is helping political chiefs adapt to public sector transition at a major conference hosted by one of the world’s most influential global leadership and international relations groups.

Strategy and policy advisor Bart Fonteyne is taking part in Salzburg Global’s Public Sector Strategy Network’s latest event, Annual Foresight Retreat: Public Strategy in Transition, from May 21-23.

There, the experienced Belgian has been sharing insights gleaned over his illustrious 25-year career with counterparts from around the world as they explore how governments can thrive in an era of extreme change. An expert in designing and implementing solutions to address complex public policy and strategy situations, Bart has focused on the changing development landscape during the three-day event.

The retreat brings together senior government leaders, disruptors, and experts from sectors including technology, finance and civil society to address pressing global challenges, such as climate action, artificial intelligence, and the green transition. Participants are exploring how governments can navigate emerging challenges, drive transformative policies and build public trust while delivering on heightened citizen expectations in an increasingly complex world.

Held at the historic Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, the invitation-only gathering provides a confidential space for the carefully selected collection of participants to engage in discussions that could prove beneficial for organisations all over the globe.

The event’s four primary goals include:

  • Facilitating peer-to-peer learning,
  • Reimagining public services to better meet citizen needs,
  • Advancing innovation and resilience within government, and
  • Building cross-sector collaboration to maintain financial sustainability whilst addressing global challenges.

Bart has worked with us since December 2024, serving as a senior strategy and policy advisor for international development cooperation and helping with the establishment of a new foreign aid agency.

Prior to engaging with us, he worked for organisations all over the world on matters of international development. He has extensive international experience across Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, and Europe, and speaks six languages.

His previous roles have included serving as Head of Institutional Performance Management at the International Committee of the Red Cross and advising ministers and senior officials on higher education policy and governance reforms in countries including Mozambique, Ethiopia, and Egypt.
